Colorful Colorado Wildflower Engagement | Courtney & Mike

Colorful Colorado Wildflower Engagement | Courtney & Mike

When we made plans for Courtney and Mike’s session they said they were up for whatever. It was the perfect time to explore more of Shrine Pass for their colorful Colorado wildflower engagement. They’ve had to reschedule their wedding TWICE because of the pandemic so I wanted to go an extra mile (or 4.5, so we found out) for them. They had great energy from the moment Travis and I arrived and I’m sure some of that can be attributed to a few adult beverages. I typically meet couples at a brewery or bar to start so even in an unusual year things got off to the typical start. The wildflowers were absolutely insane. Every color of the rainbow covered the hillside. Nature is great…

Mountain elopement at Brainard Lake | Cecelia & Jamie

Mountain elopement at Brainard Lake | Cecelia & Jamie

Cecelia and Jamie decided to get married and have a mountain elopement at Brainard Lake since their wedding had to be postponed this year. Like myself, they enjoy the mountains so Brainard Lake was a no brainer. The area has gorgeous views, a mountain lake and quiet forests which all make for the perfect backdrop. I’ve photographed couples here in the winter but this was my first trip to Brainard during the summer months. Although it was overcast, the backdrop was still beautiful. I had a great time exploring the different places around the lake with these two and look forward to their wedding. Congratulations Cecelia and Jamie!

Iconic Engagement in Denver | Mesha & Joe

Iconic Engagement in Denver | Mesha & Joe

My dad is a talker. So naturally when he was in the hospital for minor spine surgery a couple months ago he told the nurses and doctors all about his family. Mesha, one of his nurses, happened to be engaged and reached out to me about her and Joe’s wedding this fall. I’m grateful for the care he had while he was there and thrilled that I’ll be able to return the favor for their wedding this year. For their engagement session we met up at Improper City, just north of downtown, to start the afternoon with a drink. Mesha and Joe have a natural, easy going chemistry that I vibe with really well. We were having such a good time that we almost didn’t want…

Winter engagement in Breckenridge | Cassidy and Shane

Winter engagement in Breckenridge | Cassidy and Shane

Ever since Cassidy and Shane got engaged on an island in the Pacific they have been looking forward to photos in the mountains. After looking through my engagement location guide, they thought that a winter engagement in Breckenridge would be exactly what they wanted. We met up at Breckenridge Brewery for a drink to get to know each other before the session. I had a wonderful time chatting with them about a multitude of things before we drove up to Sawmill Reservoir to start their session. Breckenridge resort had their snowiest February on record so it was a little tough hiking through all the fresh snowfall but it was gorgeous and quiet so we couldn’t complain. After the sun started to dip we made the…

Downtown Denver Proposal | Sierra & Alex

Downtown Denver Proposal | Sierra & Alex

Alex got down on one knee outside of Union Station on Saturday night and proposed to Sierra on what is sure to be one of the best birthday weekends she’ll ever have. Her reaction was raw, full of pure joy and excitement. There were tears from both of them as the moment begin to set in. It was so special and I’m glad that Alex asked me to photograph his downtown Denver proposal. He has been planning this for some time, all while they both live in Oklahoma. With some help from their friend Mattie, Alex got in touch with me a few weeks ago share his thoughts on how it all would go down. I’ve photographed countless engagements at Union Station but never a…

Fall Evergreen Engagement | Jennifer & Stefan

Fall Evergreen Engagement | Jennifer & Stefan

Last week we snuck in Jennifer and Stefan’s fall Evergreen engagement photos on one of the last warm days of the year. I’m not sure I could have more fun during an engagement session than I did with these two. Like myself, Jennifer and Stefan are both Colorado natives. We spent most of the afternoon talking about everything from how things have changed around here to our families. I met them at Evergreen Lake where we spent the first part of the afternoon. It was a gorgeous, bluebird day and the lack of people around created a serene environment. Later on we drove a couple minutes up the road to Alderfer/Three Sister’s Park. This area is fantastic when the light is as good as it…

Fall Colors Engagement in Aspen | Mel & Drew

Fall Colors Engagement in Aspen | Mel & Drew

It’s fantastic when a session like this comes together. Last month I called Mel and Drew with an idea for their fall colors engagement in Aspen. I thought that the timing would be ideal for a trip up to the Maroon Bells. Thankfully, they were as excited as I was despite all the extra planning and logistics involved in trying to do an engagement session at one of the most photographed locations in all of Colorado. My fiancée, Amy, joined me for the trek to Aspen to help as long as I treated her a trip to the hot springs the following day. They joined us for lunch in Aspen before starting the complicated journey to the bells. Drew, Mel and I took the bus…

High Mountain Engagement | Madeline & Chris

High Mountain Engagement | Madeline & Chris

The fall colors have finally begun to pop up which was perfect timing for Chris and Madeline’s high mountain engagement session last week. I met these two at Wedtoberfest back in April and anyone who wants to drink beer while they’re wedding planning are my kind of folks. They’re both engineers and have been studying hard for their professional exams so I’m glad we could get them outside for a bit. We met up at the Georgetown Loop Railroad since Chris is a big fan of trains and were lucky enough that the last train of the day rolled by when we were there. After a quick stop in downtown Georgetown we made our way up to Guanella Pass, stoping a couple times along the way…

Mountain Lake Engagement Near Vail | Laura & Ryan

Mountain Lake Engagement Near Vail | Laura & Ryan

Summertime in the high country rarely disappoints but with all of the snow we got this year everything is especially green and lush. We decided to do their mountain lake engagement near Vail up at Piney Lake. It’s one of the tougher Colorado Engagement Locations to get to but once you make the bumpy 45 minute ride up the dirt road from Vail you’re rewarded with spectacular views of the Gore Range. I’ve enjoyed coming back ever since I photographed a wedding at Piney River Ranch a couple years ago. I was connected with Laura and Ryan through a talented photojournalist colleague and I’m so glad that I was. They have ton of fun together and enjoyed the process. I got a big kick out…

Colorado State Capitol Engagement | Katie & Matt

Colorado State Capitol Engagement | Katie & Matt

This week I met up with Katie and Matt for their Colorado State Capitol engagement session. I always encourage couples to choose a location that’s meaningful to them and since Katie happens to work at the capitol and Matt works in politics it was the perfect place for their photos. We met up at Cap City Tavern for a quick beer before venturing over to the Capitol. I’ve photographed assignments inside the Capitol but I’ve never been there after hours when no one is around. Photography has taken me to some interesting places during my career and this was a unique experience that I’ll always remember. When the rain subsided we walked across the street to Civic Center Park in search of something a little…
