Ravisloe Country Club Wedding | Katie & Joel

Ravisloe Country Club Wedding | Katie & Joel

As a photojournalist, it’s incredibly rewarding when another journalist asks you to document their special day. Katie is a damn good reporter from outside of Chicago and Joel is an eye surgeon who loves Alabama football. I knew that we would get along when they were interested in sharing some amazing beers out of my cellar the first time we met. I travel all the time for weddings, especially in Chicagoland, so I was excited that I was able to capture their Ravisloe Country Club wedding. Since they live in Colorado I was able to shoot their spring engagement session in downtown Denver. In all of my years doing weddings, Katie is one of the top two most organized brides that I’ve ever worked with….

Room 1520 Wedding | Chicago

Room 1520 Wedding | Chicago

I was recently in the windy city to help my friend and Chicago Wedding Photographer Travis Haughton document C and O’s Room 1520 wedding just west of Downtown. It’s definitely one of my favorite venues in Chicago like Bridgeport Art Center. I started the day with the guys at the Raffaello Hotel before we headed up to the fantastic rooftop for their first look. C looked absolutely stunning in what was possibly my favorite dress of the year and O had a huge smile on his face when he saw her. After a few portraits around town we dodged the rain and headed west for their Room 1520 wedding ceremony. After they exchanged vows and walked down the aisle hand-in-hand I ventured up to the rooftop to scope things…

Galleria Marchetti wedding | Chicago | Erin & Chris

Galleria Marchetti wedding | Chicago | Erin & Chris

I traveled out to Chicago for Erin and Chris’ Galleria Marchetti wedding in June for their wonderfully quaint morning ceremony and brunch reception. Galleria Marchetti is a hidden gem in the River West neighborhood and you would have no idea that it’s so close to the highway because of the all of the trees that hide the property from the surrounding area. As a Colorado wedding photojournalist I’m spoiled with all of the outdoor ceremony locations that I get to work throughout the busy wedding season so it was a treat to photograph Erin and Chris’ ceremony outside under the arbor. The sunlight poured in through the tops of the trees and it created a great feel for their first kiss as husband and wife….

Bottom Lounge wedding | Chicago | Katie & Chris

Bottom Lounge wedding | Chicago | Katie & Chris

Earlier this summer I traveled out to Chicago for Katie and Chris’ Bottom Lounge wedding. I started the day with Chris and his groomsmen at the couple’s home before we spent the rest of the day at Bottom Lounge in the west loop for the ceremony and reception. The above image was one of my favorites from the day because it really captured the essence of the venue. It’s a concert hall and bar most of the time so I wanted to highlight the feel that you get after spending a night partying and listening to great music. The aluminum tabletops created the perfect reflection to take the frame up a notch. Make sure you check out more of their day at Wasabi Photography.

Bridgeport Art Center wedding | Chicago

Bridgeport Art Center wedding | Chicago

I recently traveled to Chicago to work alongside Travis at this Bridgeport Art Center wedding. She got ready at the Westin Chicago River Walk so the groom and myself waited outside for her to arrive for their first look. It was great to see them both so excited and emotional when they saw each other for the first time. The notoriously chilly Chicago weather didn’t stop us from making some portraits along the river walk. Despite the overcast light being really flat, we managed to find some color to make things stand out. Bright colors and graphic lines often drive my photographic vision so being able to discover so many locations that accentuated my style was fantastic. Their ceremony at the Bridgeport Art Center took…

Morton Arboretum Wedding | Marjorie & Brian

Last week I traveled to Chicago for the first of several times this year to help my close friend and fellow photojournalist Travis document Marjorie and Brian’s Morton Arboretum wedding. Getting to work with someone you know really well is a huge advantage because we often know what the other is thinking and as a team we can capitalize on making the best photos possible. It’s really no different than any other assignment that I work on in a team environment. When I’m the second photojournalist I don’t have the luxury of having met the client and having a relationship with them so I have to work even harder to develop a rapport with them and their family rather quickly. Being one of the bros…
