I had a great time hiking in the snow with Kayla and Scott for their winter engagement in Dillon earlier this month. They’re originally from the midwest but have come to enjoy exploring Colorado’s high country. I figured they would be game for something more adventurous so I had them meet me at Dillon Reservoir where we trekked out a few hundred yards on the frozen water. A few of the ice fisherman gave us some precarious looks as we marched past them but once out of view, we had practically to whole area to ourselves. We chased a bit of sunlight and hiked along one of the nearby ridges before driving up to Loveland Pass.

It’s always chilly and windy this time of the year up on the pass so I tried to work quickly. They didn’t hesitate when I suggested a location in thigh deep snow, though we were all freezing by the time we got back to the car. Twilight was quickly setting in so I set up for a few final photos and only lost one of my two yaktrax in the snow. There is something magical about being atop a mountain pass at that time of the day. Congratulations you two!
